In het verhaal bij m’n vorige post kon je linken naar een pagina waarin stond wat me zoal bezig had gehouden de laatste 2 blogloze maanden, en in een stukje over films kijken kon je lezen dat ik me nogal had beziggehouden met de eindigheid van ons aardse bestaantje. (op het plaatje met de filmrol klikken).
Om daar nog even op door te gaan: gisteravond ‘Zombieland’ gezien, wel een vermakelijke rolprent. Maar je gaat het toch gelijk vergelijken met die andere zombie-komedie ‘Shaun of the Dead’, en dan steekt het toch een beetje povertjes af…

Maar ik dwaal af. Het gaat hier om de serie ‘The last Kings’ van de Amsterdamse kunstenares Gertie Bierenbroodspot, al van een tijdje geleden. Bierenbroodspot is nog volop bezig, waarover je alles kan vinden op haar site bierenbroodspot.com.

Daar ben ik weer.

Ik heb een ‘nieuwe’ knoppedoos en dacht dat met alle technische verbeteringen de posts op m’n blog en m’n site, video-frutsels, wat er al niet meer kan op digitaal gebied wel in verhevigde vorm cyberspace zouden bestormen, maar de programma’s deden niet wat ik wou, gedoe met codecs en tech-bla waar ik weinig verstand van heb, en ik wou eerst de hele configuratie rond hebben voordat ik weer eens wat anders ging doen.

Die puter is wel veel sneller en nou haal ik veel sneller een filmpje binnen, en na een beetje frustrerende tech is het prettig een mooie film te zien, of een dom spelletje te doen.

Ondertussen kwam de BUMA met hun snode plannen om voor elk YouTube-filmpje geëmbed op een site of blog die muziek bevat van een artiest die z’n belangen laat behartigen door deze club 30 euries te eisen. En dat zijn er nog al wat, alleen is het niet erg duidelijk wie dat wel of niet is…
De hele zaak is me nog niet erg duidelijk, dan wordt weer geroepen dat dat voor iedereen geldt, dan wordt weer geroepen dat het alleen om commerciële sites zou gaan, maar zodra er ook maar één advertentie bij staat ben je al het lul volgens de geruchten.
Nou zou ik wel kunnen leven zonder die advertenties op m’n site, als die over een heel jaar genoeg opleveren om één maand de provider te betalen dan heb je het wel zo’n beetje gehad. Nou zou één filmpje die ‘winst’ alweer teniet doen.
Geldt trouwens voor alle content met muziek, dus ook de Grooveshark-widgets met alleen streaming audio.
Maar zelfs dan ben ik er nog niet gerust op, dan heb je net een achtergrondmuziekje bij een filmpje gevonden, en dan blijkt dat opeens een dure grap.

Zodoende raakte ik weer eens aan het muziek maken op m’n knoppedoos, dan weet je tenminste zeker dat je niks verkeerd doet, en na een week of 2 begint ’t me een beetje duidelijk te worden.
Op de één of andere manier lukte het me niet om de muziekjes op m’n WordPress account te posten, op fröbelblog PitzPages.blogspot.com is de oogst te vinden in de zijbalk. Hier en hier de eerste twee setjes (de eerste met Mixcraft, de tweede met FruityLoops gemaakt.)
Nog niet echt geschikt als achtergrond-geluidsbehang, het is voorlopig meer een beetje rare geluidjes fabriceren, daar zal ik eerdaags eens wat meer over vertellen. Maar dan zit je zo uren/dagen te pielen, time flies.

Over deze en dergelijke dingen meer op m’n site. Leg ik gelijk even uit wat me meer bezig heeft gehouden de laatste tijd.

Een soort verantwoording afleggen dus.

Als je dan een beetje afstand heb genomen van het blog-gebeuren, is het nog niet eens zo makkelijk om dat weer te hervatten. Je zit in een soort blog-flow, en dagelijks publiceer je iets wat je de moeite van het delen met mede-cybernauten waard vind, je ziet een mooi filmpje, hoort een mooi muziekje, een apart kunstwerk, een mening, een theorie, en als vanzelf brabbel je dat aan elkaar met een tekstje.

Midas Dekkers (geloof ik, anders was het die andere schrijvende bioloog) zei ooit over internet iets in de trant van: die bloggers die schrijven eerst wat en pas als het op internet staat gaan ze erover nadenken.
Dat was als kritiek bedoeld, maar ik vind dat juist de charme van het internet. Het spontane, ongecompliceerde, opwellingen die bij een nadere redactie al hun scherpe kantjes zouden verliezen. Bijdragen waarvan de stijl meer zegt over de poster dan heel de tekst, discussies op webfora die zich laten lezen als een roman, veel geschreeuw en gescheld wat in realtime achterwege zou blijven, eerst tot 10 tellen zeggen ze, maar op een toetsenbord tel je pas tot 10 als de oprisping op de monitor cyber-echt is.
‘Cyber-echt’, dat is sowieso geen woord, daar hoef je niet zolang over na te denken, dat scheelt weer.

Schrijven is schrappen wordt wel gezegd, en 80% of meer van alle content op internet is misschien overbodig, maar de kans dat het verkeerde geschrapt wordt is veel kleiner.

Eenmaal uit de blog-flow kijk je er toch weer anders tegenaan: wie zit er op mijn mening te wachten, wat zal het de wereld schelen wat ik mooi of lelijk vind, en een tekstje schrijven wordt een opgave: je gaat elk woord wegen, als je erover nadenkt wordt het steeds moeilijker, is dat wel een woord, wat klinkt dat gek, op elke letter ga je zitten kauwen, tot je helemaal vast zit. Blog-block.
Gewoon een end heen typen (zonder dat meteen te publiceren), daar de ergste onzin en krompraat uithalen en je zit er zo weer in, we zullen zien of dat werkelijk lukken wil.

Ik had het over verantwoording afleggen, met m’n verantwoordelijkheidsgevoel is het weer droevig gesteld. En m’n zelfbeeld heeft weer een deuk opgelopen: ik word net opgebeld omdat ik morgen jarig zou zijn.
Nee zeg ik, dinsdag. Ja morgen dus.
Was er heilig van overtuigd dat het zondag was. Heb ik een etmaal geslapen? Was het 2,5 dag in plaats van anderhalve dag dat ik non stop met die muziekdoos zat te pielen? Een alien abducion, een belangrijke encounter at the mothership? Ik kan me het niet herinneren, net zoals de bedoeling is.  Normaal gesproken is dat een beetje slordig maar in mijn geval geen ramp, vandaag had ik een afspraak met de dokter, dus ik heb weer wat uit te leggen…

Kreeg net de melding dat Batman binnen was.
Dus als verjaardagscadeau trakteer ik mezelf zo op een filmpje.
Van de week ‘Batman returns’ gezien, net als deze  van Tim Burton. Qua verhaal beter dan ‘The Dark Knight’, wat volgens sommigen de beste film aller tijden zou zijn, misschien qua fx, maar het verhaal (dat helemaal ondersneeuwt in al dat visuele spektakel) is een beetje magertjes. Ook één van m’n goede voornemens: alle films van Tim Burton bekijken…

Seattle flash mob Beat it

Gister zou Michael Jackson 51 jaar zijn geworden. In Seattle aanleiding voor een flash mob, waar iedereen die er op af kwam het dansje van ‘Beat it’ opvoerde, een man of 300.

Als je op het filmpje klikt om naar de betreffende YouTube-pagina te gaan zal je trouwens zien dat er daar vaker geflashmobt wordt, kussengevechten, Iran-acties, in het verleden meer MJ-dansjes, gezellige boel daar…

some more on Healthcare/Warfare

a few days ago I posted some words about the hassle being made about healthcare-reform, and the huge amounts of money spent in the US on ‘defense‘, which seems to be taken for granted.
I’ve done some more surfing the net on the topic, and came to the conclusion that there are some weirdo’s overthere.

First I want to explain this is not about US-bashing, for me and many people in the world the US is the cradle of lots of interesting cultural things, science, literature etc. And lots of nice people. Helas there are some morons with the biggest mouths, as shown in the ‘townhall meetings’.

Maybe ‘culture’ is not the right word, actually America has no culture of its own (besides the natives’) but being a melting pot ‘american culture’ is the zenith of all cultures.
The frightening thing is the huge spendings on military, and the huge consumption, something like 5% of the world population consuming 25% of the recources. Leading to a deficit that seems unsolvable, and the suspicion that this war-machine is there to maintain the obesitas-hummer-lifestyle by obtaining the goods at gunpoint. Irak is about oil, Afghanistan is about gaspipelines that otherwise will go through the Russian hemisphere. Like the Georgia-conflict, same story. Democracy and religion are just the excuses. Other conflicts like in Africa about all kinds of crudes may have no direct military interference, but CIA and all kinds of special services are swarming around (like China’s, Korea’s, Japanees, European etc), with ‘development agents’ etc.

Reading some of the reactions on the healthcare issue, I get the impression of an upcoming civil war not far away. The fanatism and the trigger-happy ‘militias’ reviving after their slumber during 8 years of republican government are some scary ingredients. The hysteria on the ‘townhall meetings’ showing some pre-human evolutionary stadium, be it that a great group of those primates don’t believe in evolution, want to deny science (or leave it classified in army labs), and at the same time pretend to have the highest moral standards.
Like ‘pro life’, the strange mixture of anti-intelectualism, fundamentalism, and ‘love for live’, which some of them brings to taking other people’s lives… Too stupid to acknowledge that their policy of  ‘abstinention’ leads to far more abortions than some regulated system. Like regulating drugs instead of the war on drugs, like regulating whatever instead of their ‘freedom’ at the cost of a war on the rest of the world. Crazy enough to start a (civil) war. And I guess a good part of the army will choose the side of the primates, because they are drilled that way.

Saw this vid where the townhall (nearly)riots are attributed to some memo of the ‘right principles’ movement, which should be orchestrated by the insurance-companies.

Later, this was ‘debunked’, by saying the man had no ties to any lobby (he is insurance-agent by coincidence, but not for medical insurances), but not denying they spread the memo, just some parts of it ‘were highlighted out of context’ – is not that what they all do, especially when you encourage people to disturb debate by 5 ‘well prepared questions’, and yell them simultaniously to discourage the other side?

On ‘The Young Turks’ I saw an item with the same subject, so they are also part of this ‘liberal leftist conspiracy’, and from there I stumbled on this one, showing the primates in their natural habitat, obviously afraid of loosing their ‘white supremacy’, and showing their evil: someone with a bad conscience will subscribe their own deeds to the others…

Makes me wonder also, why is it that in the cirkles of people with those ‘moral standards’, christian, muslim, whatever, critisizing others for ‘loose morals’, that in those cirkles you’ll find the most rapes, incest, and all kinds of filth? I think I even don’t wonder, it’s the oppression and constantly pointing at other’s immoral behaviour that creates the perverted minds…

Here a site which name says enough strange thing is some of the items I agree with, like the internet-control thing (though I doubt it is possible due to the decentralized structure of  ‘our’ net) but most of it is about the blessings of the conservative thinking, their obviously not-hated Fox and the fox’s mouth Glenn Beck, and this one is also on the right side, but at least the comments are diverse and there are some interesting between them

Another possibility is the USA just splitting up, States declaring themselves independent. But allthough America has done a lot to split up countries like the all too independent Yugoslavia, I doubt if the federal government will tolerate such behaviour, and then there’ll be also some kind of civil war, be it of an other nature.

Let’s hope non of the possibilities will come that far. Or maybe when it happens the biggest part of the population is busy watching some playoffs or Idols, ignoring what’s happening outside, like most of them now seem to ignore what’s happening abroad…

In april had ik het op m’n site over Mind my Gap, en over ‘map XI’, nu staat ‘map XII: Home’ on line.

Het heeft even geduurd, maar dan heb je ook wat. De nieuwste aflevering is gelijk een korte film voor Rosto’s bandje ‘Thee Wreckers’, en hiermee zou op één aflevering na de ‘Mind my Gap’ cirkel rond zijn, van de corresponderende episoden aan de andere kant van de cirkel zijn er nog twee te gaan. Als je het MMG-universum nog nooit betreden hebt dan zou ik dat maar gauw doen want dan heb je nog heel wat in te halen, en dan zal het je meteen duidelijk zijn wat ik bedoel.

Exoskelet: Japan vs USA

The last weeks I sometimes try to understand the heated debates about Obama’s intention to reform the US healthcare system(s), and I get quite astonished by some aspects of it.

Like the often heard objection resumed in the oneliner: it is socialism!, the s-word obviously standing for some ultimate doomsday-scenario.  In Europe this ‘extreme left’ point of view was common practice till the privatizations became the standard. Nowadays here in Holland inurance for medical care is obligatory, and often it is the insurance company who decides which drugs or treatment are prescribed, and not the doctor. That’s something to worry about, I don’t know the role of the insurance companies in Obama’s view, but it has nothing to do with socialism, it’s plain capitalism.

I understood in America lots of money is spent on healthcare, but a large group (40 million +) is excluded. And that with all the different insurance companies and government agencies,  31% of all the money spent is spent on administration. So I guess there is room for some adjustments.
I can imagine the state-of-the-art-healthcare only in reach of a small group with private insurance or the money to pay it ‘out of pocket’ cannot be made accessible to everyone, or only at very high costs, especially with the babyboomers getting at the age to become dependant of all kinds of care, but I guess there are some basic things that  could be covered.
There may be some younger people who complain about paying taxes for a generation that did not pay for it in their time (and came up with the idea ‘to their own benefit’), they will benefit also in their time.
‘Funny’ thing is, in Europe lots of people are afraid they will not profit of all the money they spent on healthcare, pension funds etc., simply because the money will be gone when it is their time, with the aging of the babyboomers and lots of bad investments done by the funds.

When I surfed the facts & figures I stumbled on the staggering amount of taxmoney spent in the US on ‘defense’, which most US citizens do seem to take for granted.  Defense in brackets, because I don’t believe  you defend yourself bullying the rest of the world. Like ‘spreading democracy’ , another eufemism. I remember the docu ‘The Revolution Will Not Be Televised’ about the Bush-backed coup in Venezuela, where the new attorney- general (I believe, anyhow one of the gang) spoke those classic words: “We hereby decree, that a democratic transitional government shall be established in the following manner: we hereby dissolve the National Assembly, we also dissolve the Supreme Court, we dismiss the Attorney General, the head of the Central Bank, the Ombudsman, and the National Electoral Board.” To decree democracy is a whole new definition of the word. The docu may be manipulated by the Chavez-side, those words were not spoken by some actor hired to ridicule the anti-Chavez.
Acting like that you don’t make yourself popular, so you’ll have to buy more weapons to bully more, to make more enemies, to get in need of more arms etc. etc. In the end only good for the military industrial complex, not for the taxpayer.

Lots of idle words in clumsy English, like often an illustration says more than 1000 words, so I thought the ‘exoskeleton’ is a good example. In Japan an exoskelet is developed for medical purposes, in the US for warfare.

Lots of military applications may have their civil spinnoff (after being tested on the battlefield), it may delay developments also, because in the US inventions can be refused patent when they might have some military purpose. Since lots of things may have military purposes nobody knows how many beautiful inventions (energy, transport, medical) are dusting in army-labs, waiting for an opportunity to be tested.
So come on Uncle Sam, roar another battle-drum, we cannot wait for all the beautiful results…

Nobody Cares/Hugh MacLeod’s Gaping Void

Vroeger toen ik nog wel eens artistieke aspiraties had had ik er moeite mee om iets af te maken, ik vond het vaak zonde om over de eerste schetsen heen te kwasten.

Als ik iets van een collage wou maken deed elke snipper die ik over de voorgaande wou plakken weer pijn, ik dwaalde al meteen weg in de compositie, terwijl een ander gewoon een paar letters of een stukje van een plaatje zag, of een losgeldbrief.

Hugh MacLeod heeft dat beter begrepen, die heeft z’n doodles tot kunst verheven, en hij heeft er nog succes mee ook. Z’n prints gaan over de toonbank voor bedragen van een paarhonderd dollar, en voor een orgineel moet je gauw een bedrag met vier nullen neertellen.
Of dat nou komt omdat iets meteen gewild is bij snobs als het maar duur genoeg is, of dat het meer zegt over de waarde van de dollar dan over de waarde van het werk, of dat het werkelijk zo bijzonder is, ik weet het niet.
Sommige dingen vind ik wel van een erge gemakszucht getuigen, of ijdelheid, sommige, zoals de bovenstaande ‘nobody cares’ vind ik van een indringende poëtische zeggingskracht. En het is een statement wat me aanspreekt.
Beoordeel zelf wat je er van vind, dit is z’n site.

Ik kwam het tegen op de ‘tech-crunch’-site, over de nieuwste ontwikkelingen op internetgebied, waarvoor MacLeod jaarlijks een zeefdruk maakt, dit jaar ‘dream big’, waarvan de eerste afdruk geveild wordt voor een goed doel, en waarvan je de andere afdrukken kunt bestellen voor het luttele bedrag van $395,- . Limited edition, maar hoe limited heb ik nog niet kunnen ondekken. Als je je afdruk in huis krijgt kan er ook wel x/10.000 op staan, dat is ook ‘limited’…

Gelijk hier achteraan weer een andere kunstenaar, met heel ander werk, maar wat wel

weer aansluit bij ‘Nobody cares’…

Theo Jansen’s strandbeesten

Tijdje terug had ik op m’n site al ’s een filmpje gezet met de strandbeesten van Theo Jansen, wat er ondertussen van het filmproject strandbeestmovie.com is geworden is me niet helemaal duidelijk, wel stuitte ik laatst op DarkRoastedBlend op een pagina over Jansen en andere kinetische kunst.

Daar heb ik weinig aan toe te voegen, vanuit die pagina kan je weer op allerlei andere DRB/ModernMechanix pagina’s belanden, genoeg voor uren kinetisch lees- en kijkplezier.

Wat me opvalt is dat Jansen wereldberoemd is, behalve in Nederland. In DarkRoastedBlend wordt hij in één adem genoemd met Vermeer, Leeuwenhoek en Huygens, en prijken zijn scheppingen bovenaan de pagina over ‘kinetic sculptures’.
Wat dat aangaat zouden ze hier best wel wat chauvinistischer kunnen zijn, in plaats van te jammeren over het ‘teloorgaan van onze cultuur’ maar daar niks anders aan doen dan afgeven op andere culturen. Behalve stemmenwinst bereik je daar natuurlijk weinig mee…

Als hij weer eens terug is uit het verre oosten geeft hij 4 oktober een lezing/filmvoorstelling in de voormalige Luxor-bioscoop in Zutphen. Omdat ik daar vroeger gewoond heb vind ik dat wel grappig om te vermelden…
